2023 Lai Chi Vun Shipyard – Plots X11 to X15 Design Proposal for Public Art Installations and Public Facilities Open Call

Ship is not only the transportation on the sea but also a carrier of the spirit of sailing. With the improvement of ship technologies, human established the sea routes into the unknown and started their adventure journeys. The design is to create an exploring journey for the visitors. Through the art installation as a new carrier, visitor is like a navigator who explores and experiences Lai Chi Vun Shipyard Area in a different way.

The art installation concept comes from the spirit of a ship to form a new exploration intervention. Anchoring in Lai Chi Vun Shipyard Area X15, the idea is shaped by identifying the framing angles for the 6 elements, which related to the shipyard. It is further explored by the idea of kaleidoscope and inspired by the craftmanship of shipbuilding. The installation is to create an interaction between the visitors and surrounding environment whilst providing opportunities to explore the potential of the shipyard.
