2022 JiaXing Ancient City Connecting South Lake International Concept Design Competition

The design was inspired by the process of seeding, transplanting and harvesting of “He”, refers to rice in English. The architectural configuration assimilates two sheaves of rice intertwining together with the full drop of fruit while the two sheaves also represent the symbol of the agricultural workers and the fundamental of Chinese Communist culture.

The site was chosen to link up the city central axis between Zicheng and Hao Gu Ta Yuan at the old town district as a catalyst to extend the cultural activeness to revitalize. The design approach is to amplify the central cultural axis, to assemble the cultural relics, to activate the stories around the canal, as well as to attract the visitors. With the concept of “The river is the thread, the city is the bead, the thread is the bead, the bead is the surface" the design is to connect the two cores of the city.
